About this deal

Time and again, I have heard stories of dreams that are intimately connected to the ability to play great golf. Conversely, if their first few swings aren’t great, they get down on themselves, starting tinkering too much with mechanics and then swing worse.

As you will be aware if you have read my blog over the past year, my golfing experience has been very up and down. You have to look at what you're aiming for, because that's going to influence your level of commitment. Their attitude is, “I’m not playing well right now, but when I put it all together [or our team puts it all together], I’ll really be something. These golfers experience such negative emotions after a bad shot, that they act out on the course by throwing clubs, cursing, berating themselves, etc.Rotella works to make sure the player has fun on the golf course while playing at the fullest potential. Golf has become much more competitive and systemized since this book was written, so every advantage a player has matters. He works with these players to sharpen their mental game, using confidence and imagination to play the game of golf.

Golf is such an expensive sport to play, and there are still so many unsaid barriers that prevent diversity. It is more important to be decisive than to be correct when preparing to play any golf shot or putt. Train yourself to accept that you can’t be perfect in golf and mistakes will happen and move past them quickly.

Bob Rotella is the bestselling author of a dozen books, including Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect, The Unstoppable Golfer, and How Champions Think.

of your practice time (whether on long or short game) should be on acceptance, targets and routines, 40% on technicals. Since I’ve put some of his principles into practice over the last month, the range of my scores has narrowed, and my average scores has reduced by three strokes. I read this book before Christmas, along with the John Richardson one I wrote about yesterday, and it has also helped me in a number of ways. I’m currently in a two week quarantine and am now itching to get on the golf course and put Rotella’s teaching into practice. You may not be able to erase the bad memory but you can certainly push the stop button on those mental tapes… Projecting what might be your final score vaults you into the future and adds extra pressure on every shot you take.
