When the then 21-year old Mac DeMarco released his debut Rock and Roll Night Club 12" in the Spring of 2012, it was accompanied by a barrage of bizarrely funny promo videos, wildly unhinged live performances and a not-so-subtle disparate range of promo photos. Out of the packaging it has minimal surface noise, likely a brushing or cleaning would take care of it.The sincere and warm Mac who sang "Only You" was the same lipstick-wearing sleazoid that crooned "Baby s Wearing Blue Jeans" and that suited him and his listeners just fine. The performances here are a little looser and the sound a little hazier than on the actual LP, lending an atmosphere of dreamy vulnerability, especially to ballads like “Annie” and the Lennon-esque “Sherrill. x LP 10 Year Anniversary Edition containing both 2 and 2 Demos with an 8 Page Booklet containing new liner notes written by Mac. My copy of the 2 Demos that this came with has some type of imperfection that creates a persistent 'pop' for about the first 30 seconds on the first side and then goes away. This Double LP includes both 2 and 2 Demos alongside an 8 page booklet with brand new liner notes written by Mac himself. I think it’s super interesting Mac Demarco releases full-length demo albums for so many of his records; I really think packaging them together like this was a big hit for me and probably how the album should be enjoyed. I've had some issues with prior copies of Here Comes the Cowboy and my copy of the This Old Dog demos, but this one is quiet with minimal surface noise throughout the studio album. Aside from my preference of releases, the sound quality is pretty damn good, the Viceroy colorway is exquisite, the little booklet sewn into the spine is fun (would have preferred something akin to what VMP is doing lately), and little touches like printing “10 Years” on the spine make this a really great release.
